A visit to the recently conserved lime kiln at Rockfield Farm, Kilcrea was organized by Catryn Power, Cork County Archaeologist. The visit was sponsored by ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) to mark International Day of Monuments and Sites, on the 18th April 2010. This year’s theme is “Monuments in their Agricultural Setting”.
County Mayor, Derry Canty introduced Seamus Healy, a local historian from Ovens who gave an excellent talk on lime kilns and their use in producing fertilizer for agriculture. About fifty people were at the event.
